Luiz Fernando Alves
Director of Operations, GranBio
Luiz Alves is an industrial operations and project execution leader with over 30 years of experience in bioenergy, biorefining, and large-scale agribusiness. He joined GranBio in January 2023 as Director of Operations. Alves specializes in directing complex capital projects, optimizing operational efficiency, and steering greenfield and brownfield start-ups from conceptual design to full commercial production.
Throughout his career, Alves has held senior roles at major energy, refining, and agro- industrial corporations. Most recently, as Superintendent of New Projects and Operation Director for SSOil Energy, he oversaw the licensing and operational ramp-up of the Coroados refining unit. Previously, as Industrial Superintendent for Terracal Alimentos e Bioenergia, he directed the implementation of an integrated bioenergy hub in Piauí, featuring a 4-million-ton sugarcane mill and a 220 MW cogeneration plant. He also served as Corporate Industrial Manager for Adecoagro, driving automation optimization and master planning for mill complexes processing over 12 million tons of feedstock per crop season.
Recognized for his contributions to operational excellence and sustainability, Alves coordinated GEGIS-MS (Group of Studies in Sugarcane Industrial Management) from 2011 to 2015, facilitating technology benchmarking across 21 plants.
Alves holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering (Production emphasis) from UNIFEI and a post-graduate specialization in Industrial Management and Technology in the Sugar and Alcohol Sector from ESALQ-USP.
